Workshop: Design, Selection and Prioritization of Climate Resilient Infrastructure

EST Wednesday, November 15, 2023

Held at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel, one of the INSPIRE conference event venues.

Included in conference registration. SPONSORED BY WSP.

As climate change and extreme weather increasingly impact infrastructure, the importance of making the case for investment in resilience grows. This includes effectively quantifying and communicating potential impacts from climate change and extreme weather, assessing the benefits of avoiding these adverse events (both quantifiable and non-quantifiable), and comparing between different alternative solutions and their performance under future climate conditions. Proper execution of these exercises is also critical for obtaining funding through competitive state and federal grants, such as BRIC (FEMA), PROTECT (U.S. DOT), CDBG-MIT (HUD), and others.

This 2-hour interactive workshop brings together infrastructure agencies, city governments, metropolitan planning organizations, asset managers, and other organizations responsible for financing, planning, delivering and managing infrastructure to discuss and exchange ideas with the goal of being able to make a stronger case for resilient infrastructure investment.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the challenges and opportunities in using different approaches to make the case for resilient infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with other attendees and workshop facilitators to strategize how to best approach making the case for resilient infrastructure in different contexts.
  • Learn about data, methods, and tools that may be used to determine the impacts of climate change and quantify the benefits of projects.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will have gained more insight in how to effectively make the case for investment in resilient infrastructure and will have a greater understanding of tools and strategies necessary to undertake supporting analyses.

This workshop will be designed as an interactive and hands-on event with a dedicated session focused on promoting discussion and idea exchanges among participants.

Space is limited. Participants will receive a confirmation of registration.
